Harlow Museum & Walled Gardens in Mark Hall is situated in the 17th Century Gardens of Mark Hall Manor which was lost to a fire in the 1950s. The manor’s stable block is now the home to Harlow Museum, originally being designated as the Harlow Cycle Museum in 1982 for the Jon Collins Cycle Collection. Harlow Museum now contains the town’s vast historical collection and resources of around 40,000 objects and continues to be a focal point in the community of Harlow.
Within the museum, there are 5 galleries that take you through Harlow’s history. From the creation of a New Town in the 1950s right back to early man and the significance of local archaeology.
Their public access library have a range of materials to suit your needs including:
Census records from 1841-1901 (earlier records can be found via SEAX), Newspaper records from the 1940s to the present day, OS maps, cartography and landscape plan drawings and much more.
